AN AGE HAS ENDED (THE CIRCLE IS CLOSED) 19900929
Deep in the past, man worshipped the beasts
With stone imagery and wild pagan feasts
But as his knowledge grew
Blindly he groped for something new
Animals we can kill, animals we eat
Why should I kneel to this carcass at my feet
And so man then looked to the sky
To find an answer to the question of why
The Age of Beasts came to a close
Like the inevitable blackening of the rose
What control will mankind now propose
Can't look to himself as everyone knows
Search for something to which they could bow
While a few still held to their holy cow
Thus the gods were made
A mere superstitious trade?
Gods of the Sun, gods of war
Pictures of gods hanging next to your door
Pray to them always, always in fear
Lest the gods take those you hold most dear
The Age of Gods had come
With promises of a heavenly kingdom
But discontentment did mount
For greed they did not take into account
The Age of Gods is coming to a close
Like the inevitable blackening of the rose
The Age of Gods is coming to a close
So as man outgrows his morality
He shapes a new reality
No time now for deities
Or for religious niceties
Will he now worship monetary gain
Electric currency and its omnipotent reign
How long will these new gods last
Compared to those lost in the past?
The Age of Gods is coming to a close
Like the inevitable blackening of the rose when it snows
The Age of Gods is coming to a close
The Age of Gods has come to a close
As they return to the legends whence they rose
What control will mankind now propose
Can't look to himself as everyone knows
